Instead of continually getting angry, set boundaries and allow people to experience the consequences if they break the boundaries.

Setting boundaries is good.

   Jesus set them.

Even though He was extremely busy healing, teaching, etc, He set and kept a boundary:  He would daily get away from the crowds to commune with His Father.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. - Mark 1:35

He also guided the disciples to do the same.

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.“  32 So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. – Mark 6:31,32

David didn’t set boundaries with his son and the results were disastrous.

1 Kings 1:5,6

Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, "I will be king." So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

6 (His father had never interfered with him by asking, "Why do you behave as you do?" He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)

Adonijah tried to become king and consequently died an early death.

For example, rather than getting angry with Joshua when he gets too close to the TV to watch Christian dvds, I have set up and enforced a boundary.

If he leaves the couch to get closer to the TV, I stop the dvd and he can’t watch it anymore.  This has been much more effective than me telling him repeatedly to not get too close.

Application:

  1. Practice saying “no” to yourself so that you can say “yes” to God.
  2. Delay gratification.

The laborer's appetite works for him; his hunger drives him on. - Proverbs 16:26

  1. Practice setting up boundaries with people who are sinning even if they ……………

       4. Ask yourself some questions.

Am I afraid to say no to this person because I am afraid I will lose their ………………?

Am I saying yes to this person because I am afraid I will lose ………………?

  5. Relocate your glory.

But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. – Psalm 3:3

By His grace,
