Speaker Name:  Rev. Billy Chung
Scripture:  Ephesians 5:18
Passage:  Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

The secret to success is being filled with the Holy Spirit.

What is success for Christians? Success is becoming and living like Jesus Christ.

With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can learn how to pray effectively.

With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can overcome depression and temptation.

With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can make wise decisions.

With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can have joy even in the midst of tremendous suffering.

How can we be continually filled with the Holy Spirit?

1. Take time to confess your sins. 1 John 1:9

2. Spend time filling your mind with God’s Word. - Colossians 3:15-18, Ephesians 5:18-20

The Holy Spirit will fill you as you spend time exposing your mind to God’s Word. Exposing your mind to God’s Word means Spending time reading the Bible, listening to God’s Word through sermons, studying the Bible, and meditating on the Bible.

You will learn about God's character, God's acts and God's promises as you meditate on His Word.

Psalm 103 – is a great example of how the God filled a believer with joy as he meditated on God's character and actions. David's heart was filled with praise for God.

We must set before our own soul the banquet of promises that God has made to us and feed our faith to the full.”

You need to spend time doing this. It does not happen instantly. Just as you can’t charge a cell phone in ten seconds, you can’t get filled with the Holy Spirit in ten seconds. It takes time.

Our goal is to become like Jesus and one of the ways we become like Jesus is by thinking like Jesus. When our attitude toward sin, toward others, etc is like Jesus' attitude, we will be controlled by the Holy Spirit.

The way to be filled with the Spirit is by trusting that the God of hope really reigns—that not a sparrow falls to the ground apart from his will (Matthew 10:29)—and that he runs the world for you and for all who trust his word. In believing that, you will be filled with the Holy Spirit and with joy.

3. Spend time worshiping God.

Worshiping God by singing is an expression of your love for Christ and an expression of trust in Christ. However, it is also a tool for strengthening your faith and filling you with His Spirit. Worship is something that we do as a result of being controlled by the Holy Spirit but it is also something we do to be filled with the Spirit.

4. Spend time asking God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. - Luke 11:13, Matthew 7:7,8

You have no ability to live the Christian life.

You have no power to live the Christian life. You can’t do. It is hopeless. That is the bad news. The good news is that the Holy Spirit lives inside you. He can enable you to overcome all your sinful desires and live the way God wants you to live.

No prayer, no power No power, no victory No victory, no joy No joy, no ministry

5. Dedicate yourself to obey God. - Romans 12:1, Luke 6:46

Commit yourself to obeying God whatever He asks you to do.

Obeying Him is difficult but the rewards are great.

"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? - Luke 6:46

1 John 1:8,9

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Matthew 7:7,8

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Philippians 2:5-11

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 12:1

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-- this is your spiritual act of worship.

Luke 6:46

"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?
